It was sad to leave San Cristobal after our four nights there, in part because we weren’t able to do all the things we’d hoped due to feeling unwell for part of the time, but also because this was kind of the last real exploration time on Galapagos.
We hopped another speedboat for the 2 1/2 hour ride back to Santa Cruz. This ride wasn’t as bumpy, but the boat was crowded, so we spent the whole time in semi-awkward positions, which made it seem even longer.
Our last night on Galapagos was spent at the Hotel España again, which in retrospect wasn’t so bad. At the time, I was pretty unhappy when I found out our room was on the 4th floor and the charm of the winding, some-shallow some-deep stairs we had to carry all our luggage up and then down again had definitely worn off. We managed just fine and the air conditioning worked, so that was a plus after the stairs.
All in all, Hotel España wasn’t bad. We chose it because it was relatively cheap, and of course: you get what you pay for. We kept a close eye on our luggage, and everything worked out ok.
